WATCH Weekly Report 08-27-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 08-27-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK: Whenever possible, reserve for a performance as early in the run as possible.  And try to avoid attending the closing performance unless it is unavoidable.  Performances do get cancelled, and personal emergencies arise, so this will allow you to reschedule or find an alternate if the need arises.  I can often find someone who saw the show to fill out a ballot after the show has closed, but this is not a guarantee.

******************************************
NOTE: Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.

WATCH Weekly Report 08-20-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 08-20-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

Last call for anyone who saw “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” at ASGT before it closed who can fill out an alternate ballot.  I need to close this show, but wanted to make one more plea before I do.  If we have to close it with only 8 ballots, the show will still be in consideration for awards.  But the more ballots we receive, the more stable and accurate the scoring is.

TIP OF THE WEEK: Not so much a tip as an explanation.  Some judges have asked why not all theaters offer free companion tickets.  The reality is that some theaters cannot afford to offer them.  For some, the venue is too small and they would lose revenue they need to stay afloat.  For others, they have to pay the venue for each comp ticket they give, so they would be out of pocket twice as much money.  There are not many theaters that do not offer companion tickets, so hopefully you do not have to purchase a ticket or attend alone for too many shows each season.

WATCH Weekly Report 08-13-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 08-13-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

For those who may not have received the update, the ballot is back online and you can resume submitting your ballots.

Speaking of which, we need 2 alternate ballots for “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” at ASGT due to weather cancellations.  If you saw this show and can submit an alternate ballot, please let me know ASAP.

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Occasionally questions come up regarding a specific production that only the theater’s rep can help answer, including questions about unfilled reservation requests.  In these circumstances, I just reply to the email adding the rep to answer the question.  In the interest of efficiency (and so I don’t have to play middleman), I wanted to be sure everyone was aware that it’s perfectly acceptable for you to email the rep directly.  WATCH has an email forwarding system set up so that reps do not have to disclose their personal email address.  So, if you ever need to contact a rep, the email address would be XYZ@washingtontheater.org, with the “XYZ” replaced by the theater’s WATCH assigned acronym (please note the spelling of theater after the “@” with an “er” NOT “re”).  This will then be forwarded to their personal email address so they can answer you.  This WATCH assigned email address also appears in this report each week, right above the directions to the theater.  And if you have general procedural questions, please email your own rep instead for answers.  You can certainly cc: me on these messages, and probably should in case I need to help in any way.  I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the available resources since, as you can imagine, I get a lot of emails and also don’t regularly check this email account on weekends, so it is important that you know how to get an answer in a more timely and efficient manner.

WATCH Ballot Fixed

 08-07-25
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

The ballot has been repaired and I have confirmed with Margaret that she is receiving the data again, so all is right with the (WATCH) world.

You can resume submitting ballots any time.  Really, the sooner, the better.

For those of you whose ballot went missing, I am still working on comparing lists with Margaret to determine whose ballots she has received and which she is still missing.

If you sent a copy of your ballot and heard back from Margaret, you are all set.

If not, I will reach out to you directly once we have sorted this out and let you know the best way forward.

Thank you to everyone for your patience.

WATCH Weekly Report 08-06-25

** WATCH Weekly Report 08-06-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

I have heard from several people that they did not see my note in last week's report about the ballot being down.
Please make sure that you read this upper section of the report every time something is included, because chances are it is crucial information for you to know.

Please note: Our balloting system is still on the fritz - you can still submit ballots, but they are not getting transmitted to Margaret.  So if your name appears in this report for a show for which you’ve submitted a ballot, it means it has not been received.  Please send Margaret a copy of your confirmation screen which includes all the scores for the show.  She can work with this in the meantime, and once I hear she has received it, I will take you off my list.  Her email address is in the “Useful Links” section, as it is in every report.  And if you did not save those scores, you will need to resubmit the ballot and then send her the scores.  Please continue to use this system until you hear from me that balloting has been fixed.

Which is a nice segue into our tip of the week …

TIP OF THE WEEK: Make sure you keep a copy of your ballot for every show.  On the screen after you submit you should see a confirmation screen that summarizes all of your entries for that show.  Take a screenshot or make a copy of this confirmation screen.  This will help in situations (like our current one) where Margaret does not receive your ballot.  We also recommend you keep a copy for all shows at least until the ceremony the following year in case there are any questions about the balloting. (As far as we know we have never had to check these, but that’s probably because we had them available; Murphy’s Law states that once judges stop saving them, we will need them.)

Directions to performance space(s): From Points North - "How would you get to Reagan National Airport?" That's the first question to answer. Once you've gotten onto the GW Parkway and passed the airport on your left, continue heading south. The Parkway becomes Washington Street as you enter the city of Alexandria. Cross King Street and take the third left after King onto Wolfe Street. You will find LTA on the right hand side of the street, at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.

From The Capital Beltway - take the exit for Route 1 North. As you exit on the ramp, you'll drive onto Route 1 and get in the right lane immediately. Take the first right, onto Franklin St. At the light, make a left onto Washington Street. Pass two lights and make a right onto Wolfe St. LTA is at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.

Parking - Parking is on the street. Watch posted signs, as some areas have two hour parking limitations and some require payment. The Capital One Bank on the corner of Wilkes and Washington streets lets our patrons park in their lot when the bank is closed. Please note The Capital One Bank has extended their hours to include evening and weekend hours. Please make sure not to use their parking lot when they are open.
There are several garages within walking distance - one is on Washington Street, near King, and there are several on Pitt, near King. Look for the "Public Parking" signs.

One handicap accessible parking space is located on St Asaph Street next to LTA’s courtyard.
