WATCH Weekly Report 01-19-22

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-19-22 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

We have received our first two ballots, so we can consider the 2022 WATCH season officially under way!

This is a friendly reminder that all judges, returning and new, are required to complete training before seeing their first show.  You should be hearing from your theater’s rep about this if you have not confirmed your training, and once your name appears on this report, you may be contacted by the Training Coordinator if you have not completed your training.  And please be sure you fill out the form to confirm so we can check you off our list.

We are in need of 4 additional Primary judges for this season.  If you are currently an Alternate and would like to be a Primary judge for another theater, please send me an email.

And please continue to check the report each week and if you can fill any open alternate spots for a specific production, let me know that as well.

*****************************************
NOTE:  Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

WATCH Weekly Report 01-12-22

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-12-22 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

It’s only week 2 and there have already been a number of scheduling changes since last week’s report:

  • The Lost Boy at Colonial Players of Annapolis has been postponed to a date still to be determined.  Originally this was postponed to Jan. 20, but looking at their website it appears that it will appear later in their season.  Nothing needs to be done if you already made a reservation.  They are hoping to have a decision by this weekend, but I have removed this from the report for now
  • The first weekend of Blithe Spirit at Castaways Repertory Theatre has been postponed, and the show will now open on Jan. 21
  • Opening night for Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play at Montgomery Playhouse is being delayed by a day, to Jan. 15
  • A Midsummer’s Night Dream at The Arlington Players has been postponed to a date still to be determined
  • Bad Seed at Rockville Little Theatre runs from Jan. 28 – Feb. 6 (this was actually just a typo in the original matrix)
Please note: I will only be posting changes to shows that have already appeared in the weekly report.  If something changes for a production before it appears on the report for the first time, I will make a note of the change in my master schedule of shows, and will add the show to the report when it is ready to open.  And if the show gets cancelled altogether, it will simply never appear in the report.

So, in summary, read this report every week and use it to determine if/when you need to make a reservation.  If this report does not match the schedule you were given at the beginning of the year, that is ok.  This report should always be the final say in what you need to see.

*****************************************
NOTE:  Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:
  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.
  5. DO check each theater’s COVID policies before attending any show, even if you think you already know what they are, and make sure you are comfortable attending

Once you've gotten onto the GW Parkway and passed the airport on your left, continue heading south. The Parkway becomes Washington Street as you enter the city of Alexandria. WATCH Weekly Report 01-05-22

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-05-22 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

We’re baaaaack …

Welcome to the 2022 WATCH year!  It feels so good to finally be sending these reports again. And thank you all for agreeing to serve as judges this year.  We could not do it without you.  For those of you joining us for the first time, my name is Kira Hogan, and I am happy to be serving as your Adjudication Coordinator once again.

This section at the top is where I post important information.  Please take the time to read it.  I won’t have something here every week, and I try to keep it relatively short (despite what the below might suggest).  But if I do include anything here, it is because it is something important that I think everyone needs to know.

The WATCH board is very grateful for your voluntary participation as a judge this year and would like to remind you to please confirm the COVID policies and protocols in place at each theater where you will be judging before making your reservation, and again before attending the performance, in case anything changes in the interim. All theaters should have their policies posted on their website, which is always included in these reports.  If you feel at all uncomfortable with attending the show, please don’t hesitate to ask your rep to find an alternate for the assignment. We would also like to encourage you to see your assigned show as early in the run as possible.

Below is the basic information you need to know for judging – essential for new judges, but it could not hurt for returning judges to read as a refresher (especially after nearly 2 years).

There are basically four steps to the judging process:

  1. Search the weekly report for your name.If you see your name listed for a show and have not yet made your reservation, do so and then send me an email with your reservation date. (This last step is the most overlooked step in the process. I need to track every judge who sees every show, and if I do not hear from you, I will send you pestering and your rep emails.)
  2. See your show.
  3. After seeing the show, submit your ballot (link is under “USEFUL LINKS” below and can also be accessed via the WATCH website). The deadline for submitting a ballot is 30 days after the show closes, and no ballot will be accepted after this date. However, we strongly recommend you get the ballot in within 10 days of viewing the show, while it is still fresh in your mind. (2 to 3 days is even better.) It might be a good idea for anyone filling out a ballot for the first time or who needs a refresher to watch the balloting section of training again right before filling out their first ballot. There is a precise way it needs to be done, and if done incorrectly, it makes the job of Margaret, our tabulator, much harder and leads to more errors in tabulation.
  4. Once a ballot is submitted, our tabulator will send a confirmation of receipt to you, your rep and me. Once I receive this receipt, I will remove your name from the report. If you see your name still listed as missing a ballot but have already submitted, it probably means I did not receive the receipt, so let me know. Margaret likes to receive copies of the playbills for every show, so if you have the capability, you can send her a copy of the playbill at watchtab@mac.com.
And that’s it in a nutshell.  Pretty easy, right?

I will send a report every Wednesday.  However, if for some reason you do not receive a report one week, there is a blog site where I post each week’s report shortly after sending it out.  This link is also listed below, and I highly recommend you bookmark this site on both your phone and computer so you can easily access it if you need to.  These reports contain all the information you need for each theater, so having the blog site bookmarked on your phone could come in handy as you are on your way to the venue.

Please make sure you read this report every week.  Schedules change and shift across the year, so while the matrix can be used as a guideline, this report is the final word on scheduling.  So even if you don’t think you have an assignment coming up, read the report anyway just in case.  And if you see your name listed for a show you were not expecting, please don’t worry.  Show and schedule changes may result in you seeing a show you were not expecting to see and/or at a time you did not expect it.  If you do not see a show listed that you were expecting to see, it means that show has been cancelled or postponed.

On some reports (including this one) you will see a note “Alternate Needed” next to a judge’s name.  This means that the assigned judge could not attend the production and their theater’s alternates also could not attend.  If you can adjudicate the production as an alternate, please let me know.

The “Just the Facts” document with every theater’s information is also posted on the WATCH website.  That link can be found below as well.  But please note that the information for each theater listed in the weekly report contains the most up to date information.  Things may change across the year, but we do not update the Just the Facts with these changes.

The WATCH board is requiring all judges, both new and returning, to review the training videos before their first assignment.  It is up to each rep to make sure their judges are trained.  Training videos can be found under the “For Judges” tab of the WATCH website (it is called “Adjudication Criteria”).  Please be sure to submit the confirmation form once you have finished viewing all videos.

If you have any questions at any point, feel free to email me at watchadjudication@gmail.com.  I would recommend adding this to your email address book, both for ease of contacting me and in hopes my emails to you do not get bounced and/or sent to Spam.

And now on with the show …

Directions to performance space(s): From Points North - "How would you get to Reagan National Airport?" That's the first question to answer. Once you've gotten onto the GW Parkway and passed the airport on your left, continue heading south. The Parkway becomes Washington Street as you enter the city of Alexandria. Cross King Street and take the third left after King onto Wolfe Street. You will find LTA on the right hand side of the street, at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.
From The Capital Beltway - take the exit for Route 1 North. As you exit on the ramp, you'll drive onto Route 1 and get in the right lane immediately. Take the first right, onto Franklin St. At the light, make a left onto Washington Street. Pass two lights and make a right onto Wolfe St. LTA is at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.
Parking - Parking is on the street. Watch posted signs, as some areas have two hour parking limitations and some require payment. The Capital One Bank on the corner of Wilkes and Washington streets lets our patrons park in their lot when the bank is closed. Please note The Capital One Bank has extended their hours to include evening and weekend hours. Please make sure not to use their parking lot when they are open.
There are several garages within walking distance - one is on Washington Street, near King, and there are several on Pitt, near King. Look for the "Public Parking" signs.
One handicap accessible parking space is located on St Asaph Street next to LTA’s courtyard.
