WATCH Weekly Report 01-31-24

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-31-24 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Think twice before you give a score of “10”.  If you give it a “10”, you should be thinking along the lines of “OMG/that blew me away/that is professional quality/should be headed to Broadway.”  You don’t need to give a 10 to show your appreciation; somewhere in the 8 to 9 range is still a great score.  Save your 10’s for if/when they are truly deserved.  And since the one highest and the one lowest scores for each element are removed before the average is calculated using the remaining 8 scores, when you give a 10 and none of the other judges did, your score ends up being removed and not counted for that element anyway.

NOTE:  Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.

The new parking garage is located at the far end of Alice West Fleet Elementary School (115 S Old Glebe Rd) on the right. (For those that remember, the school was built on top of the old parking lot.) Please note there are two sharp turns.
Once in the garage, drive toward the back and to the left. You will see a big blue wall where the stairs and elevators are located. You can take either option.

Helpful tips:
- There is a difficult to see median as you pull into the top of the garage. If you hit this, you may harm your car. Please be aware of the median and enter the garage as slowly as possible!
- Please note that the reserved signs are reserved 24/7, please do not park there.
- Please note that The Arlington Players does not control the garage and we have been warned that the garage will lock when we are to be out of the building (11PM for evening shows).  If you do not get to your car by the appointed time and the doors lock, we will not be able to get you into the garage.

------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

We are already starting to see scheduling changes for this year, so if you are looking for a show in a report and it does not appear, it is not happening.  Or at least not when you think it is.  Furthermore, sometimes due to scheduling changes, another judge might end up assigned to a show you thought you were going to see.  There is no need to reach out to me to confirm when one of these things happen.  If a show is missing that is supposed to be on the report, the rep for the theater should reach out to me.  Remember the Adjudication mantra – the matrix schedule is just a guideline; this report is the WATCH bible.

TIP OF THE WEEK:  As you are filling out your ballot, please be aware of what we like to call “the halo effect” – even in the best productions, it is extremely rare that everything in that production is of the same quality and deserves the same score.  Please try to be discriminating in your scoring and give each category a score that it truly deserves based on its quality and its criteria, and not just whether you enjoyed the production overall.

******************************************

WATCH Weekly Report 01-17-24

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-17-24 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  When completing your ballot, if you find yourself typing a plural word in the role name field (e.g. "nuns" or “orphans”) and then several names in the performer name field, PLEASE STOP!  Only give individual scores to the leads, the featured characters, and any true cameos.  The hard-working folks in the chorus should be considered in the ENSEMBLE score, but should not all receive individual scores.  In summary, one should never list a group of actors in the individual scores section.

******************************************
