WATCH Weekly Report 06-25-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 06-25-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

This week’s tip is a repeat from last week.  Summers tend to be when a lot of theaters do big musicals, so I thought it was important enough to repeat the tip for those who might have missed it.  And if your name appears in this report, make your reservations NOW.

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Shows at many theaters do sell out, especially musicals and shows that include/are aimed at children.  This is why it is crucial that you make your reservation as early as possible, and definitely before the show is closing, especially for these types of shows.  If you wait to reserve, box offices workers are left scrambling to try to fit you in, which is not fair to them.  Plus they are not required to do so, and if they simply cannot find you a ticket, I will be left scrambling trying to find someone who already saw the show to fill out a ballot.  So please make everyone’s life easier (including your own) and just reserve as soon as humanly possible.

******************************************
NOTE: Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.

WATCH Weekly Report 06-11-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 06-11-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Sometimes productions list members of the Ensemble along with specific character names in the cast list in the program.  In this case, you would list all the character names on the ballot, eliminating the “Ensemble”, and provide a score just for the non-Ensemble roles.  For example, for a character listing of “Ensemble/Joe Smith/Bob Jones”, you would list “Joe Smith/Bob Jones” on the ballot and give a score just for those roles.

WATCH Weekly Report 06-04-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 06-04-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Be sure you are on the lookout for Special Effects as this category is often overlooked in the program, but still needs to be scored if present in the production.  Or sometimes it is listed in a different way in the program, but still needs to be scored as special effects on your ballot.  WATCH training defines these as something that required a “special dedicated technician to design, set up and/or run.”  Some examples include pyrotechnics, rain or water, videos or projections, flying of actors and/or items, and seemingly magical appearance or disappearance of actors and/or items.

******************************************
NOTE: Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Directions to performance space(s): From Points North - "How would you get to Reagan National Airport?" That's the first question to answer. Once you've gotten onto the GW Parkway and passed the airport on your left, continue heading south. The Parkway becomes Washington Street as you enter the city of Alexandria. Cross King Street and take the third left after King onto Wolfe Street. You will find LTA on the right hand side of the street, at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.

From The Capital Beltway - take the exit for Route 1 North. As you exit on the ramp, you'll drive onto Route 1 and get in the right lane immediately. Take the first right, onto Franklin St. At the light, make a left onto Washington Street. Pass two lights and make a right onto Wolfe St. LTA is at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets.

Parking - Parking is on the street. Watch posted signs, as some areas have two hour parking limitations and some require payment. The Capital One Bank on the corner of Wilkes and Washington streets lets our patrons park in their lot when the bank is closed. Please note The Capital One Bank has extended their hours to include evening and weekend hours. Please make sure not to use their parking lot when they are open.
There are several garages within walking distance - one is on Washington Street, near King, and there are several on Pitt, near King. Look for the "Public Parking" signs.
