WATCH Weekly Report 05-28-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 05-28-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

We are still in need of an alternate ballot for a recently closed show.  Please refer to the Closed section of this report and let me know if you can help.

TIP OF THE WEEK:  I need to be kept informed of your reservation to be sure all shows are covered by 10 judges, and the simplest and most efficient way to do this is to just cc: me on your email reservation request to the theater.  This way I know you have a reservation, and you do not need to send me a separate email to let me know – two birds, one stone.  Of course, if you reserve by some means other than email, you will still need to send me a personal email with this information.

******************************************
NOTE: Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.

WATCH Weekly Report 05-21-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 05-21-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

We are in need of an alternate ballot for a recently closed show.  Please refer to the Closed section of this report and let me know if you can help.

TIP OF THE WEEK:  If you are ever in need of an alternate judge to cover a show, your first contact should be your theater’s rep.  They will look for another judge from your theater first, and then contact me if no one is available.  The earlier you do this, the better chance we will be successful.  And if you need a last minute alternate, I would recommend calling or texting your rep.  Speaking for myself, once I know that a closing show is covered, I typically do not check WATCH emails on the weekend.  If your rep is like me, an email for a last minute replacement will likely go unseen until it is too late.

WATCH Weekly Report 05-14-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 05-14-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  Many shows do sell out, especially musicals and shows with children in the cast.  So while it is a good idea to make your reservation for every show very early in the run (or even better, when your name first appears on the report), it is especially crucial when it is one of these types of shows, particularly when it is a well-known show to boot.  I have had to reach out to a lot of judges recently after hearing from reps that they are in danger of being shut out of tickets. Please don’t let this happen – reserve early.

WATCH Weekly Report 05-07-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 05-07-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK: There seems to be some overlap in scoring of set design and set construction, but these are two very different animals.  Set design is how well the design interprets the needs of the script and enhances the director's vision, plus level of difficulty for things like multiple locations, creative use of the space or design of a non-traditional set that still establishes setting or concept.  Set construction is the actual building of the set - is it sturdy, does it look entirely believable as a structure, plus level of difficulty for things like moving pieces and smoothly executed changes of set.
