WATCH Weekly Report 02-26-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 02-26-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK: With projections being used in more and more shows, the lines between set design, set decoration and these are being blurred, leaving judges to wonder where the projections fit in.  Regardless of how they are used, for scoring purposes, projections should always be scored under Special Effects.  So, if you see projections in a show, make sure you are giving a score for Special Effects.  And if a Projection Designer is included in the program, their name should be listed for this category.  If the show also has other Special Effects, you will need to list those designers (assuming they are in the program) along with the Projection Designer(s) on the ballot, and give one score for the combined effort.

******************************************
NOTE:  Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.

------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK: For the technical elements, if you see it on stage, you should score it, regardless of whether it is listed in the playbill.  For example, if there is no Costumer Designer listed, but the actors were (hopefully) wearing clothes, you would check the “Not Listed” box, but still give Costume Designer a score.  The most overlooked elements are usually Special Effects and Combat Choreography, because theaters often forget to list these in their programs and not every show has them.  But you’d be surprised by how many missing scores we see for things like set painting or makeup as well.  So, to reiterate, if it is present in the production, score it.

WATCH Weekly Report 02-12-25

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 02-12-25 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

TIP OF THE WEEK: Please double check the start time of the performance you are judging.  Start times vary by theater, so do not assume you know what time they start.  Also, please make every effort to be on time.  Sometimes things happen very early in the show that are crucial to character and/or plot development that could impact your scores.  And they do know you are a WATCH judge when you are late, and often let me know, and you may be asked to return to see it again or send an alternate from your theater.  We all know that traffic is terrible in this area, so if necessary, try leaving a little earlier to account for that.
