WATCH Weekly Report 01-10-24

 ** WATCH Weekly Report 01-10-24 **
------------------------------------------------------------
To the WATCH Board, Judges, and Alternates:

I have decided to bring back the tip of the week from a few years ago.  This section will cover mistakes or issues we see during the balloting or tabulation process, or just reminders that we think will be helpful.

But first, as a general rule, if there is ever any hesitation on your part about what an element contains, re-read or re-watch that part of the training again. Looking at it another way, if there's anything you can't explain to a friend, you may need to brush up on that element.

Also, since I get this question from new judges every year, if you were assigned a show, but your name disappears from the weekly report, this is probably because I have removed your name from the report after receiving the ballot confirmation from Margaret.

Conversely, if your name still appears, but you sent in your ballot, it probably means I have not received the conformation from Margaret (which is the only way I know it has been received).  If you received that confirmation email, just forward it to me and I will take you off the list.  If you did not receive it, it probably means that Margaret did not receive it.  Check in with us, but you may need to resubmit, which is one of several reasons we always suggest you keep a copy of your scores once you’ve submitted them.  Please also note that this is a manual system which requires Margaret to check for ballots, so it may be several days between when you submit and when you receive her confirmation.

And now, what you’ve all been eagerly awaiting for:

TIP OF THE WEEK:  For the technical elements, if you see it on stage, you should score it, regardless of whether it is listed in the playbill.  For example, if there is no Costumer Designer listed, but the actors were (hopefully) wearing clothes, you would check the “Not Listed” box, but still give Costume Designer a score.  The most overlooked elements are usually Special Effects and Combat Choreography, because theaters often forget to list these in their programs and not every show has them.  But you’d be surprised by how many missing scores we see for things like set painting or makeup as well.  So, to reiterate, if it is present in the production, score it.

******************************************
NOTE:  Balloting for a show closes 30 days after the show closes.  If you owe us a ballot, please get it in as soon as possible.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. It’s very long, and the reply will include the entire thing. Please send a new email to watchadjudication@gmail.com
  2. DO email me your reservation dates. Really, I want to know!
  3. DO search this entire report for your name, including in the “Closed” section to see if you owe any ballots.
  4. If you go see a show that you were not assigned to see, please let me know in case we need an alternate. Try to keep the playbills for all shows you see at WATCH company theaters, at least until you see that it has closed with all ballots received. Similarly, if you see a note that an alternate is needed and you are available to see that show, please let me know.
